Toyota Supra; The Devil

Toyota Supra

Toyota Supra is a Sports Car and a Grand Tourer manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation. Production of the Toyota Supra begins its production in 1978. The initial four-generations of Toyota Supra were produced between 1978 and 2002 later, the fifth generation of Supra was introduced in March 2019 and went on sale in May 2019.

The styling of the Toyota Supra was taken from its predecessor Toyota Celica. From 1978 to 1986 Supra was sold as Toyota Celica A70 Supra. Toyota Supra is currently selling its fifth generation car globally. But the Car we gonna be talking about today will be the Toyota Supra generation fourth also known as Toyota Supra MK4.

Toyota Supra was loved to the extent that it had its own logo part from the regular Toyota logo. The logo was similar to the logo that of Toyota Celica but blue instead of orange. This logo was used until January 1986, when the A70 Supra was introduced. The new logo was similar in size, with orange writing on a red background, but without the dragon design. That logo, in turn, was on Supras until 1991 when Toyota switched to its current oval company logo.

Toyota shutter production of Supra MK4 in 2002. But the craze of Supra was so great that Toyota actually introduced the fifth generation of Supra after 17 years of its shutdown in 2019. The fifth-generation Toyota Supra was co-developed with the G-29 Z4.

Toyota Supra has appeared in many Video Games such as,

Initial D Arcade Stage, Initial D, Gran Turismo, Forza Horizon, Sega GT, Assesto Corsa, GTA San Andreas as Jester, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Need For Speed Midnight Club etc

For years the Supra basked in all sorts of motorsports successes that encompassed drag racing, touring car racing, rallying, drifting, and road racing series like IMSA, JGTC, and Le Mans. Even today, it remains a formidable competitor and is widely used in all sorts of grassroots racing genres.

A finely tuned Toyota Supra was capable of producing more than 2000 BHP (Yes, you heard it right).

Toyota Supra MK4

The Toyota Supra MK4 is also known as the Toyota Supra A80. it was designed by Isao Tsuzuki. In 1992, 20 hand-built Toyota Supras were taken for the test. These 20 cars were built on the frame of Lexus SC400 using the suspensions, drivetrain and the subframes. After the successful tests, mass production begins in 1993. The fourth-generation Supra shared its platform with Lexus SC400. Lexus SC400 and Toyota Supra MK4 looked the same in certain aspects but Toyota Supra distinguished itself as it had rounded styling which seemed to be borrowed from Toyota's first Gran Tourer 2000GT.

Toyota Supra introduced two new engines,

Naturally Aspirated Toyota 2JZ-GE : 220bhp@5800rpm and 285Nm@4800rpm

Twin-Turbo Toyota 2JZ-GTE : 276bhp@5800rpm and 431Nm@4800rpm

These engines were specific to the Japanese Market. For the export model (Europe and America), Toyota upgraded the Supra's turbo engine which produced power of 321bhp@5600rpm and torque of 427Nm@4000rpm.

The turbocharged engines can do 0-100kmph in 4.6 seconds. The turbo version has a tested top speed of 285 km/h but, the speed was electronically limited to 180kmph in Japan and 250kmph in Europe. The European versions of Toyota Supra were unknown to SPoilers but had a hood scope on the front which the Japanese models didn't.

All versions of Toyota Supra MK4 were equipped with five-spoke alloy wheels. The naturally aspirated models had 16-inch wheels and the turbo models had 17-inch wheels. The difference in wheel size was to accommodate the larger brakes equipped as standard onto the turbo model, but in Japan were optional extras. Both models had a space-saver spare tyre on a steel rim to save both space and weight.

In the 90s Toyota Supra competed with some of the legendary Cars like Honda Acura NSX, Mazda RX7, Mitsubishi 3000GT and Nissan Skyline GT-R.
