President Ramnath Kovind has deferred the purchase of Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard.
Considering the situations of Corona Virus Pandemic, President Ramnath Kovind has taken several steps to reduce government expenditure and one of that includes referring the purchase of Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard Limo. S600 Pullman Guard is based on Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard Limo is estimated to cost ₹10 Cr.
Currently, the Indian President uses an older generation of Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard (based on W221 S-Class) which was unveiled back in 2011 globally and came into service of President Pranab Mukherjee. This model offers VR7 level of protection and is powered by a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V12 petrol engine. This car is capable of producing 517 bhp of power and 830 Nm of torque.
The latest generation of S600 Pullman Guard (which has been deferred) was unveiled globally back in 2018 and offers VR9 level of protection i.e, it can withstand 7.62x51mm rifle rounds. This vehicle is ERV (Explosive Resistance Vehicle) capable and can withstand 15 Kg of TNT from two meters.
The latest generation Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 petrol engine. This engine is capable of making 530 bhp of power and 830 Nm of torque (same as the older generation model). Being a President's Car who is the head of the country the particular S600 Pullman Guard can come with lots of modifications both inside and outside. Out of that many of the specs and features can be kept secret.
On of the other measures taken by President Ramnath Kovind includes a reduction in domestic tours and programs, 30 per cent salary cut for the whole year and more. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also announced a 30 per cent cut from his salary until normalcy is restored.
