In 2018, Maruti Suzuki India and Toyota Kirloskar India came to an agreement that Maruti Suzuki will supply mild-hybrid and hatchback to Toyota Kirloskar and Toyota then sell them under its own name.
In 2019, we have seen Toyota introducing Glanza, which was nothing but a rebadged Baleno. Toyota introduced Glanza with two variants G and V. They skipped the base variant and kept the price nearly ₹ 30,000 less than Baleno.
Toyota Kirloskar India is all set to launch its first compact SUV in India. Toyota's first compact SUV will be a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has finally approved the supply of Vitara Brezza to Toyota Kirloskar India. Toyota will now sell this SUV under its own name.
Toyota is likely to call the rebadged Brezza as Urban Cruiser. There will be minimal changes to the Urban Cruiser from Vitara Brezza. The changes include revamped bumpers and grills, dual-tone interiors, new headlamps and more cosmetic upgrades.
Taking about the engine Vitara Brezza uses a K-series 1.5-L Petrol engine, which produces 103 bhp of power and 138 Nm of torque. There is no Diesel variant on offer. Toyota will also do the same, they will introduce Urban Cruiser with the same K-series 1.5L Petrol engine with similar power and torque output.
Toyota Urban Cruiser will be offered with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The automatic 4-speed automatic being a torque converter unit is a bit outdated today. What we hope is that Toyota should introduce Urban Cruise with a 5-speed AMT or a CVT transmission, which would be cost-effective and more sensible too.
